Hopkins Engineering Innovation commuter programs help you prepare for college through a four-week on campus experience in various locations across the US, including Ohlone College in Fremont, CA! Join fellow STEM-loving students from across the country and around the globe to preview life as a real engineering undergrad!

Dates

The program at Ohlone runs from June 29 to July 24, 2026

  • Reminder: Classes on Fridays will be virtual.
  • First Week: The campus is closed Thursday, July 2nd and Friday, July 3rd. We will conduct online classes on Thursday, July 2nd. There will be no class on Friday, July 3 due to the holiday.

You will be in class from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily with a 45- to 60-minute break for lunch. Class on Friday is online.

 Academics

Explore Engineering Innovation (EEI) classroom is located in Building 1 on the Fremont Campus.

Reminder: All Friday classes will be held virtually.

Your instructors receive JHU faculty appointments to teach your course. They typically have a PhD and teach college-level courses. Local high school teachers, university graduate students, and former EEI students also assist with the classes serving as teaching fellows and teaching assistants.

Your class will have between 18 and 24 students, with whom you will work closely in teams of up to four to complete engineering projects. Each course has a 12:1 or fewer student-teacher ratio.

Engineering Innovation students will have access to the JHU Sheridan Libraries ’ online resources throughout the program. In addition, students may use the Ohlone College library for on-site study and research. Please note that borrowing privileges at Ohlone are limited to students officially registered at the college, and the library operates with reduced hours during the summer. We recommend checking their website for current hours before visiting.

Curious about what class is like? Visit our Past Syllabi page to explore previous course materials organized by program, year, and course type. While the exact content may evolve, these syllabi offer a great preview of the topics, structure, and hands-on projects you can expect.
