Johns Hopkins Summer Jobs Program – YouthWorks Partnership

Johns Hopkins Summer Jobs Program – YouthWorks Partnership

The Johns Hopkins Summer Jobs Program is sponsoring Baltimore City high school students who wish to participate in YouthWorks. Possible placements for students in this collaboration are Explore Engineering Innovation (in-Person) and Biomedical Engineering Innovation. In 2022, YouthWorks will run from July 5 to August 5.

Eligibility Requirements for students who wish to select EEI or BMEI as their placement:

  • Baltimore City residents
  • Baltimore City Public Schools students
  • Students at least 15 years old by March 31st of the program year
  • Good attendance throughout high school

Eligibility Requirements for Engineering Innovation:

  • Have As and Bs in their high school math and science classes
  • Successfully completed Algebra II
  • (For EEI) Successfully completed a lab science course (Chemistry and/or Physics).  Many students feel that knowledge of physics is particularly helpful for the course.
  • (For BMEI) Successfully completed a high school Physics course including a lab component where hands-on experiments are completed and lab reports are written. Students need to be comfortable with drawing and calculating forces in free-body diagrams, equations of motion, and principles of electric circuits prior to taking the course.
  • Successfully completed a course where the trigonometric functions are taught.  To meet the trigonometry prerequisite, students must be able to use sine, cosine, tangent, and the Pythagorean Theorem to determine angles and side lengths for right-angle triangles.

Accepted students will:

  • Receive a full scholarship to attend EEI (In-Person) or BMEI
  • (For EEI) Be invited to attend Engineering FUNdamentals
  • Be paid $12.50/hr for up to 25 hours/week from July 5 – August 5 to attend EEI (In-Person) at the JHU Homewood campus as a commuter student or BMEI online
  • Have the potential to receive college credit (if they earn an A or B in the course)
